Mercedes to release new CLS in 2015

New Mercedes CLS

A number of images have been released online which seem to show a newly updated Mercedes CLS model during testing. It is believed that the Mercedes brand have been testing the revised model near the manufacturers headquarters in Stuttgart.

The model was not under camouflage and is rumoured to be making an appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed later on this year. The CLS model has been amongst the best selling models for Mercedes over the last number of years, however, the firm have recently fallen to the bottom of the pile as Audi have overtaken them.

The Audi brand have had a record first quarter and have jumped to the top of the luxury car market. Sales of Audi SUV models have been a major contributor to the success of the firm and rivals at BMW and Mercedes are expected to be combating the success with newly developed models of their own.

Arguably, Mercedes are the furthest behind in the race to become the best selling SUV manufacturer. The likes of the Q range at Audi and the Toureg model at Volkswagen have been amongst the best selling models in the SUV range whilst the BMW X6 is due to be updated.

Mercedes CLS to go on sale in 2015?

According to the pictured developments, it is predicted that the new CLS model will go on sale sometime in 2015. The new look on the model will have a number of minor styling tweaks including the new pronounced front bumper as well as large curved air inlets. Most recently, BMW have introduced the air intake on the front of models and are thought to have sparked a new trend in the market.

The Mercedes brand are yet to confirm any official release dates or figures. However, if the same engine choices and trim levels are selected, we can expect the price to be somewhere in the region of £47,610. If the model is powered by the 5.5 litre V8 engine then the model will have the ability to generate as much as 549bhp.
