Jaguar Land Rover, who are currently owned by India’s Tata Motors have partnered with the Chinese automaker Chery which has allowed them to manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover models. The deal signed today on the 19thNovember is said to be worth up to £1.1 billion.
The partnership comes as the result of the significant rise of Jaguar Land Rover models in the booming Chinese market. Last year witnessed a 60% rise in sales and this year alone has witnessed a 80% increase. Chery, which was founded in 1997 is one of the largest automakers in China. They have confirmed that they will build a manufacturing plant and also a research and development plant in Changshu, near Shanghai and expect it to be opened in 2015.
Jaguar Land Rover has not confirmed what models they would build, however the Freelander or Evoque are likely favorites given the current great demand for the models in the People’s Republic of China. Jaguar Land Rover has insisted that the joint venture will not affect the current UK manufacturing plants, which are situated in Birmingham, Warwickshire, Liverpool and Coventry and state that the new partnership will be very beneficial to the West Midlines based company.
The two companies released a joint statement welcoming the new Chery Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Company Ltd venture, "We are delighted to have reached this milestone, achieved thanks to the understanding and foresight of the Chinese authorities and we want to thank them for recognising the potential of our joint venture in the fast-growing Chinese market. Together, we will now begin working in close collaboration on our partnership plans to harness the capabilities of our respective companies, to produce relevant, advanced models for Chinese consumers".

The move by Chery is seen to be the first of many international expansions by the Chinese auto mobile company and has got many experts in the industry to guess where will be next?
