The Audi R8 e-tron not for sale?

Audi have recently announced that the all electric R8 e-tron model will never make the showrooms or even be sold to an external source. Audi announced that the model will be used purely for internal testing and development rather than the general public.

It is widely thought that the main reason the model has not made it through to the showroom stage is down to the development of the battery. The R8 model is a high powered vehicle that will expect to reach 0-62 in 4.2 seconds. However, the battery life is thought to be the only thing holding the model back.

Audi like many other manufacturers have used a lithium ion battery along with two electric motors which allow the model to exude so much power. As well as the battery life and power being an issue for Audi and the R8 model, the price of the battery technology has not moved in the right direction which would only mean that the price of an Audi R8 model would only have to keep rising.

In a recent statement given by Audi, it was said that the Audi R8 e-tron has allowed them to carry out extensive research on both battery life and range to go along with the development of the electric car range at Audi. The current stage of the electric car market is simply the development stage and the development of the battery and all things electric car will continue for a number of years.

The quick success of the Nissan Leaf and the demand for the electric car has subsequently led to the rushed development of battery life and all things charge up. However, Audi have not rushed into the development of the electric car and have been carefully totting up all things Audi and how to integrate Audi into an electric model.
