The Most Dangerous day for Drivers is today! D-Day for driving!

According to the Co-operative Insurance, Monday 17th December, today, is the most dangerous day for driving all year. The declaration of D-Day for driving has been based on a major analysis of previous car crash occurrences from the past four years. The analysis clearly shows that bumps and collisions are twice as likely to happen today than any other day of the year.

But, it is not just today that carries a high risk of an incident between vehicles, the Co-operative Insurance also revealed that the whole 7 days in the run up to Christmas is like to offer up more crashes than any other time of the year.

Grant Mitchell, Head of Insurance at The Co-operative :

“Our data shows that people are more likely to be involved in a car accident in the run up to Christmas than any other time of the year.”

This may be due to the increased pressure of having to get presents and all other festive associations ready in time for the big day. Research has recently shown that Christmas shopping can increase blood pressure of up to 50% of shoppers in the U.K. Heart rates also increased by an average of 10% during the study.

The Co-operative Insurance also revealed which City and Cars were the most common feature in the increase in accidents during the run up to Christmas. It was the U.K’s best selling car of the decade and this year, the Ford Focus which topped the list, whilst Glasgow topped the city with the highest increase in crashes during the run up to Christmas.

The U.K's busiest city, London, does not feature on the list due to the ever occurring daily accidents that occur in day to day London life.

Birmingham, Uxbridge, Ipswich and Brighton make up the rest of the top five, with most of them more than 3 times more likely to crash on the run up to Christmas.
