September sets record for new car sales!

The UK has been the only car market to continue to grow and increase sales in the past 12-18 months as the rest of the European car market has struggled. Sales have increased once again in September as a massive 403,136 have been sold.

The fact that sales figures have jumped up to over the 400,000 mark, makes it the best selling month and the highest in 66 months. September will be the first time the UK car market has sold over 400,000 vehicles since 2008.

It was a familiar story, in terms of who topped the charts for the best selling model as the Ford Fiesta continued its reign. On the other hand, the Ford dominance at the top was broken, as the Vauxhall Corsa model leap frogged the Ford Focus up into second place.

According to the SMMT, a total of one in seven cars sold in September was built in the UK. The Nissan Qashqai, Juke and the Vauxhall Astra are all built in the UK which has helped the car market get back to where it belongs.

Ford still achieved the best sales figures out of the rest of the manufacturers and beat the closest competitor in Vauxhall by a massive 10,000. Volkswagen are then behind the Vauxhall brand in third, but sit above the BMW, Audi and Mercedes.

Nissan have seen sales drop over the last few months as the Juke and the Qashqai face a whole host of competition. Nissan expressed their worries in terms of the congestion of the crossover market way back in January and stated that the market will quickly disintegrate if motorists had too much choice in the crossover market.

However, both Ford and Vauxhall joined the crossover market with the EcoSport and the Mokka and remain happy with the sales of both models. However, the Nissan brand faces further competion to the best selling electrical model in the form of the Nissan Leaf as Volkswagen, BMW and Audi look set to fight for the sales.
