February 28, 2014

The 2014 face-lifted versions of the Volkswagen Scirocco and Scirocco R coupes have been revealed before the Geneva Motor Show next week where the updated Scirocco will make it's debut. The Scirocco's debut will mark the 40th anniversary of the original model, which debuted at Geneva in 1974.

A sleek new look has been given to the hatchback coupes, with Volswagen's main updates being under the bonnet, with the company now offering more powerful and efficient engines.

The 2014 Volkswagen Scirocco specs

Petrol engines and two diesel engines are offered for the range. The petrol line up consists of a 123 brake horse power 1.4 litre, a new 177 bhp 2.0 litre and a 217bhp 2.0 litre TSI engine which replaces the previous 207bhp motor. The two diesel engines on offer are a 148 brake horse power 2.0 litre TDI or a 181bhp 2.0 litre TDI. All engine choices come with a six speed manual gearbox as standard, with selected models being offered with a seven speed DSG gearbox.

The range topping Scirocco R model receives a more powerful 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine capable of producing 276 brake horse power, an increase of 15 brake horse power on the old car.

Efficiency has been increased by a claimed 19%, with the company claiming the engines return between 68.9 and 34.9mpg.

The 2014 Volkswagen Scirocco styling and tech

Borrowing styling cues from the latest generation VW Golf model, the updates have included the addition of aero-optimised blades featuring indicator lights, daytime running lights and fog lights sitting beneath the restyled headlights. With the optional bi-xenon headlights, the daytime running lights are LEDs within the main headlights.

All models now come with LED taillights and a reshaped bumper. The Volkswagen badge now doubles as a boot release handle like on the Golf. Completing the visual changes are new look dials and an auxiliary instrument cluster above the centre console inside. With these perfect attributes in mind we believe that this model is a

strong rivaling contender for the likes of other brands such as,BMW and Audi.

The flagship Scirocco R receives similar cosmetic tweaks but features bespoke bumpers and a new alloy wheel design. Pricing for the updated models has yet to be announced but the refreshed Volkswagen Scirocco models will be available to order in the UK from May with first deliveries scheduled for September.
