Jaguar XE 2015 spotted testing
April 28, 2014

Jaguar Land Rover's new XE mid sized saloon, currently codenamed X760, which was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March has been seen testing at the Nurburgring circuit. The new model is set to compete against vehicles in the entry level luxury segment such as the new Audi A4, BMW 3s and Mercedes C-Class.

Details on the new Jaguar XE

The XE range is set to offer good fuel economy and performance thanks to it's hi-tech construction and advanced engines. It will be the first Jaguar offering to be based on the new aluminium architecture, dubbed iQ[Al], that will be carried over from the production version of the CX-17 crossover. As such the new sedan will feature the first completely new Ingenium range of low friction, powerful and lightweight four cylinder petrol and diesel engines. Using these engines, the company claims that the vehicle will generate CO2 emissions lower than 100g/km.

Design-wise, heavy camouflage covers the test mule which was spotted but the new Jaguar features a resemblance to the XF and XJ models, which are already in the company's range. The front of the car carries a rectangular grille with mesh inserts and slender headlights. The test mule also featured a roof mounted spoiler which has been seen in previous spy shots. The rear of the model gains a chubby boot, with taillights inspired by the XF. It also features dual exhausts, meaning it may be available as a performance edition when it goes on sale. According to the company, the model will be available in both front wheel drive and four wheel drive versions.

Comments on the new Jaguar XE

Jaguar's vehicle line director for the Jaguar XE, Kevin Stride, commented, “The engineering development of the XE has focused on delivering customers the most advanced, efficient and refined sports sedan in it's class. We are exited about our progress to date and are looking forward to soon being able to demonstrate what we have achieved.”

No official release date or price has been set yet but the XE is expected to go on sale in 2015 at a price of around £25,000. The production version of the new Jaguar XE is likely to be showcased at the 2014 Paris Motor Show in October.
