The new BMW 7 series expected in 2016
September 25, 2014

The BMW brand are currently hard at work on their brand new 7 series model which is expected to see a grand release on our roads in 2016. Although the car is a mere two years away from release some features are shaping up well for the vehicle which sees the new 7 series coming made from more lightweight materials than ever before which could help benefit the car drastically when it comes to agility, performance and a much more lightweight driving experience than BMW have ever delivered on before. It was back in 1977 that the first addition to the BMW 7 series line up was introduced and since this time we have seen five generations of the car go on sale. This brand new addition will mark its sixth life cycle. Materials like aluminium, magnesium, steel and carbon fibre are some of the key materials which are currently being developed into the new 7 series model and the car will come as a saloon vehicle to begin with.

What do we know regarding the specification of the new 7 series from BMW?

The engine range that will be set to come along with the car have also been confirmed which sees the selection of four, six, eight and twelve cylinder petrol and diesel units. A nine speed automatic transmission system has been confirmed to come along with all of the units and buyers will be faced with the option of either a rear wheel or a four wheel drive formation. In regards to the diesel units that will come along with the car, we can expect to see both a 2.0 and a 3.0 litre and will benefit from either a twin turbo charger or a triple turbo charger from the time of release. A 3.0 litre, a 4.0 V8 and a V12 6.0 litre unit will come with the petrol line up. It is also believed that from the beginning of the cars lifespan, hybrid powertrain technology will also have a key role to play in the new 7 series vehicle.

Lightweight and agile vehicles such as the latest Audi A8 model and some vehicles incorporating the same technology like Mercedes and Jaguar could deliver on some great competition for the new 7 series in the future.

When can you expect your first glimpse of the BMW 7 series ?

At this moment in time, it is expected that the very first public display of this car is around a year away from now with the car expected to be revealed at the Frankfurt motor show in September of 2015 with an on sale date expected to occur sometime just after the motor show. Prices are yet to be confirmed for this brand new addition but expect to hear more closer to the time of launch if not before.
