GAP Insurance, like any other insurance, can provide a real benefit and provide peace of mind. But it will also come with some exclusions that you need to be aware of. GAP Insurance exclusions

After listening to customer feedback and questions, we set out some of the most common exclusions here. This list is not designed to be fully inclusive. We would also recommend that you check your own vehicle's eligibility against the policy terms.

Common GAP Insurance exclusions

GAP Cover is normally not available if:

  • Your vehicle is not in Glass' Guide - this is a widely used industry valuation service.

  • You do not have fully comprehensive insurance - GAP Insurance is reliant on your main motor insurer writing off the vehicle and paying out the market value. If you only have third party cover then your motor insurer will not pay out in theft or fault claims.

  • The car is being driven by someone who is not a named driver on your motor insurance - an example of this is where you lend your car to a friend who, on their own insurance, is third party insured only.

  • Where your vehicle is more than 8 years old and/or has more than 80,000 miles on the clock when you buy our GAP cover - (NB other providers may have different age and mileage parameters)

  • You use the vehicle for competitions, rallying, or racing - even in the hands of Lewis Hamilton, these types of cars are higher risks. Sorry, we cannot cover them.

  • If your vehicle is over 3500kg in weight - We can cover cars and LCV's up to 3500kg, but no more. If you have a motorhome then Easy Gap can currently cover up to 5000kg.

  • If your vehicle is left-hand drive, or an import - we can only cover vehicles made for the UK market.

  • If the incident has already happened - we can only cover an incident that happens AFTER the start date of your policy. We cannot cover anything that has already happened.

  • You do not have an 'insurable risk' in the vehicle - this means that you must be the owner of the vehicle (if it is a cash purchase, on HP or PCP) or you are named as the leaseholder for a contract hire style lease.

  • Your vehicle is being used for taxi, driving school or hire and reward - on standard cover this is normally the case. However, Easy Gap has solutions for many of these circumstances, although the premiums may be higher.

  • Where your car was being driven by someone under the influence of alcohol or non-prescribed drugs - or where you have been advised not to drive by a doctor.

Please  Note - If your vehicle does not fit the criteria for an Easy Gap policy please remember we are one of the largest specialist brokers in this field. We may not have an appropriate policy online but give our  Customer Services team a ring on 0800 195 4926. We have access to more than just the policies offered on Easy Gap, lets see if we can find cover to suit you perfectly!

We would ask that your review the full exclusion list of any policy before you buy your gap insurance policy. If you want to discuss any details of your vehicle to check eligibility please call or email us.
