From Wednesday, 28 May 2025, drivers will be able to pay roadside fines using Apple Pay and Google Pay
No more physical card or cash is needed. A click of a button on your Smartphone and it is all paid for you.
The DVSA are embracing modern payment technologies.
This will make it quicker and easier for drivers to pay fines, especially when using a mobile device.
The change follows the introduction of a new payment processing provider for the DVSA.
The card interface will change slightly, but the aim is that the overall experience will be the same.
The new payment options apply to:
Fixed penalties for vehicle defects and offences such as breaching driver hours regulations
Immobilisation fees
Court deposits
You’ll receive a payment code via email and text, along with the amount due and the payment deadline.
Failure to pay on time could result in vehicle immobilisation, additional charges or prosecution.
Fines range from £50 to £300 per offence, and multiple penalties can be issued simultaneously.
Adding more payment methods provide convenience and flexibility, which is what people expect in modern day life.
You can now pay in:
Online: Using the payment code with a card, Apple Pay or Google Pay
By phone: Call DVSA Customer Services on 0300 123 9000 (Monday–Friday, 7:30 am to 6 pm)
By post (UK only): Send a cheque or postal order to the DVSA Fixed Penalties Office in Swansea
In person: Pay cash to the DVSA examiner who issued the fine
For more information or to pay, visit the DVSA payment page at www.gov.uk/pay-dvsa-roadside-fine.
The payment page is also available in 23 languages for international drivers.
Apple Pay and Google Pay will make it easier to pay, especially if you’re using a smartphone at the roadside.
This is part of the DVSA’s overall modernisation of its services and road safety regulations.
However, drivers must be aware of the consequences of late payment.
Failure to pay on time can result in vehicle immobilisation, additional charges or prosecution.
So, pay on time to avoid further hassle.
The DVSA is introducing Apple Pay and Google Pay for roadside fine payments.
By utilising digital wallet technology, the DVSA will offer a faster and more convenient experience for drivers, as well as enhanced compliance and road safety in the UK.
A roadside fine is hardly something to rejoice over. However, at least you can get the payment over and done with in a much easier fashion from tomorrow!
